On Earth as It Is in Heaven by Heather Owens

I scribble my plans

In purple crayon

On yesterday’s grocery stubs.

When I pull them from my pockets

And smooth them

To present

They grow suddenly small

Yet large as life itself,

Diamonds drawn in wax

All my treasure,

Wrinkled and smudged,

Crossed, rewritten

Take them, take them! These hopes,

A flurry like feathers,

Of such great weight to my soul

They are yours. Do what you will.

Pen your own plans.

On my clay heart.

Not my lists, but yours

Be done this day.

Give on earth this glimpse of heaven.
